Qualifications Special Education Policy
Saskatchewan Learning policy for special education personnel qualifications
is outlined in Children's Services Policy Framework. The policy
states that: Special Education teachers and professional support staff
who are responsible for individual assessments, program planning and program
delivery must possess qualifications acceptable to the Minister.
Procedures for assessment of special education teacher qualifications
1. The Regional Superintendents of Children's Services
adjudicates the qualifications of professional special education personnel
upon formal request of either the school division or the individual.
2. When personnel do not meet the standard of training
prescribed above, interim recognition is possible.
2a. A request for interim recognition is submitted
by a school division official to the Regional Superintendents of Special
Education and the request is evaluated on the following:
- the availability of a qualified person for consultation
with or supervision of the applicant; and
- the applicant's specific plans to complete the
university courses necessary for qualification within a five year
period from the date of approval.
2b. applicant's prior work-related experience;
2c. Requests for temporary qualification are subject
to annual review and renewal.
3. The Personnel Qualifications Committee within the
Special Education Unit will adjudicate in special situations.
