Community Education plans, develops, facilitates and manages policies
and programs which promote the development of comprehensive, holistic
learning environments and enable school systems, community groups and
families to be responsive and innovative in meeting diverse learning
needs. More specifically, Community Education in collaboration with the Regional
Superintendent’s of Children's Services, provides leadership
and support in the following areas:
- policy development and assistance to school divisions and communities
in developing responsive and innovative supports and services to meet
diverse learning needs;
- development of effective practices to support student diversity;
- consultation and collaboration with other government and non-government
agencies to develop policy and service delivery related to appropriate
social, health, recreation, cultural, justice and other services for
children and their families;
- funding recognition protocols to assist school divisions with the
costs of providing a comprehensive array of supports;
- response to a variety of social and economic policy issues related
to education which are brought forward by a range of government, education
and community individuals and organizations.
The Community Education Unit manages and provides consultative support
