Part 1 provides a theoretical overview that will help teachers to understand the contextual background against which classroom practices are set.
Part 2 contains six detailed drama structures, each of which is intended to provide a dynamic starting point for an integrated project. The dramas deal with themes and issues that are directly relevant to the lives of young people. Each structure is set out in detail, with an extension web provided at the end suggesting further lines of inquiry and possible areas for development.

Despite the title of this resource, the primary purpose of it is not performance—it is an anthology of teaching suggestions for incorporating performing arts into the classroom. Background notes provide a historical perspective of movement, styles and genres in the performing arts. The suggestions in the book are intended to be used in a flexible way, and should be used within the context of the curriculum for arts education. Students are encouraged to make their own variations on the activities, and to find new combinations of structures. The book celebrates different learning styles and provides many ways to approach learning and creating.
The student edition of Live on Stage! supports and extends the teacher resource book by offering students performing arts vocabulary, background reading, writing and performing models and complete scripts.
