Each section begins with an overview of the genre and is followed by alphabetically arranged profiles of musicians from that genre. Portraits and other black-and-white photos of the musicians accompany most entries. Fun facts, historical background and fascinating anecdotes appear in sidebars throughout the volumes. The entries conclude with sections listing awards, further reading sources and contact information. Websites are listed for nearly all the musicians. A thorough subject index for the three-volume set and tables of contents in all three volumes make this an excellent resource for browsing or for research.

The Physics of Sound is an activity-oriented resource that includes a variety of topics on the subject of sound. Students are encouraged to identify musical instruments, use sounds to identify the provinces or territories of Canada and to explore outdoor sounds.

(WNCP) Picture Poems is an engaging anthology of art paired with poems written in response to each piece of art, arranged alphabetically by artist. The resource encourages interactive learning and promotes the integrated nature of the English language arts, with a special emphasis on reading and viewing. The book introduces students to the worlds of poetry and art, and it offers them opportunities to visit the works of great artists from various eras (dating from 1465 to 1995) and the writings of contemporary poets. Students respond to works of art and to poetry written about actual paintings and sculptures. The introduction defines the purpose and use of this resource. The "Teaching Ideas Section" suggests activities for use before, during and after reading and viewing. Themes and projects are suggested for extended writing and representing. The colour reproductions in this resource are of high quality, and although Canadian examples are not included, the resource enables students to explore a wide range of international master artists and contemporary poets.

This video is divided into three parts: "Warm-ups" for skill and physical development as well as for generating group energy and focus; "Playbuilding" for geminating ideas and exploring characters; "Performance" where the final collective creation is tested before an audience. Students from a Grade 11 class in Australia demonstrate these topics. This video reinforces the objectives in the Arts Education Curriculum. It provides role modeling and a wealth of ideas.

Each play is preceded by a playwright’s introduction. The real-life situations have possibilities for creative and critical extensions. Teachers are encouraged to have students create their own endings and to use the plays as inspiration for writing other scripts.

(I/M, SK) The Powwow: An Art History was published to support an exhibition at the MacKenzie Art Gallery. The objective behind the exhibit was to attempt to bring together the history of Native American painting and powwow from the end of the 19th century to the end of the 20th century. Various styles and artists were selected to help illustrate the powwow and related performances to present a survey of the developments and movements in aboriginal painting. The book includes a history of the powwow and the role of singers, drummers, dancers and costumes. Reproductions of the art works of many aboriginal artists are featured. This resource is valuable as support for the cultural/historical component of arts education.
