Special attention is paid throughout the book to the rich contributions made to this literature by Canadian authors and illustrators. This is a theoretical text that is not light reading. Two chapters of particular interest are "Literature and the Expressive Arts: Using Drama to Mediate Response to Literature," and "Aboriginal Literature and Intercultural Understanding on the Internet."

    Created in association with London’s Royal Opera House and the San Diego Opera, this book-and-CD package is a richly detailed introduction to a magnificent art form.

    The book is filled with photographs, illustrations, trivia boxes and "Did You Know?" questions that reveal interesting but little-known facts bound to spark readers’ curiosity. It also contains an index and glossary of terms.

    The accompanying CD is an excellent complement to the book. It features musical excerpts from such famous operas as Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville and Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. The titles of the songs and a short description of the works are appended.
