Index of Titles and Selections A30
Unit I: Canada¾ Diverse Landscapes and Peoples
The following titles and selections are offered as starting points for planning units of study. Teachers may wish to use additional titles suited to the needs, interests, and abilities of their students.
For each selection listed below, the chart identifies the author(s), region(s) of Canada, gender, and Aboriginal heritage (when applicable). As well, wherever the source is known, this chart lists the title of the anthology. In some cases, several anthologies are identified as sources for the selection.
The regional abbreviations are as follows: ATL- Atlantic, NTH-North, ON-Ontario, PRA-prairie provinces, QC-Quebec, and WC-west coast. M and F denote male and female. I/M indicates substantial Aboriginal (Aboriginal, Inuit, or Métis) content. Also, for brevity, some of the titles are truncated and/or include abbreviations.
Please note that some anthologies are not annotated in the "Titles and Descriptions" section of the bibliography. Most of these books are listed in the section titled "Other Useful Resources," either because they are out of print, or because they are older titles available in many school library collections.
A Vast and Varied Land
|
This curriculum encourages students to read and respond to works by Canadian and Saskatchewan writers. In addition to the titles listed below, teachers should consult lists of works by Saskatchewan writers, such as the lists produced by The Saskatchewan Writers Guild. Additional selections from these lists should be evaluated according to the school’s selection policy. |

Unit II: Canada¾ Diverse Voices
Voices Through Time
|
Teachers may wish to examine Canadian voices through time using some of the selections from each of the following time periods.
First Nations peoples played an important role in the history of Canada. Aboriginal voices should be an integral part of each of the suggested eras for the "Voices Through Time" sub-unit. This curriculum encourages students to read and respond to works by Canadian and Saskatchewan writers. In addition to the titles listed below, teachers should consult lists of works by Saskatchewan writers, such as the lists produced by The Saskatchewan Writers Guild. These lists can be used as selection tools to increase students’ exploration of Saskatchewan literature. |
