Foreword

This multi-medial bibliography represents a selected listing of recent materials evaluated by Saskatchewan educators and considered appropriate for support of the new elementary level science program. Also, since some kindergarten and grade six classes were involved in our science pilot project, resources for these grades are included.

This is the second bibliography prepared for kindergarden to grade six science. In January, 1990, an interim document was forwarded to all Saskatchewan elementary schools. This more extensive annotated version is intended to replace the former one.

When using this bibliography as a selection tool, it remains the responsibility of the school to preview and choose materials in order that the needs of each particular school and community are met. Teachers and teacher-librarians are advised to refer to their school board's selection policy for guidance in making choices about materials. The Saskatchewan Education publication, Learning Resource Centres in Saskatchewan: A Guide for Development, provides valuable direction for development of a selection policy.

As outlined in Saskatchewan Education's Aboriginal and Métis Education Policy from Kindergarden to Grade XII, teachers and teacher-librarians are reminded to select works by and about Aboriginal and Métis peoples;
