The nesting behaviour of Saskatchewan birds is shown in this video, produced in Saskatchewan. Baby chicks are shown from hatching to leaving the nest on their first flights. Some excellent photography. Accompaniment to The Birds of Chokecherry Hollow-Volume I. Shows hairy woodpecker, tree swallow, yellow warbler, robin, chickadee, catbird, kestrel (sparrow hawk), vireo, goldfinch, and house wren.

In this delightful book, detailed plasticine relief illustrations and a charming poem tell how a mother cow takes care of her new baby calf from spring birth until the fall. Children really enjoy this book. Good for agriculture and art classes.

Introduces the concept that different natural changes can affect ecosystems. The program shows how fire, flood, drought and wind can alter the environment and the community living in it. The program then shows how the introduction of a new living thing, in this case the beaver, can also alter an environment and its community. An older series, but concepts are still relevant.

Nuclear Safety (Print-Non-Fiction). Nigel Hawkes. (Issues..Issues..Issues Series). Aladdin Books, London, England (GEA), 1986. 32 p. ISBN 0-531-17040-3 ($15.50 hdc.)

A reasonably good overview of the pros and cons of nuclear safety. Slightly biased towards nuclear energy versus coal, gas, oil, which also have hazards. Does not discuss alternate sources of energy or reducing energy use. Good explanation of Chernobyl accident. Well illustrated with photos, maps and charts. Table of contents and index included.

The concept that the Earth is affected by the sun is introduced in the first part of the program through the story of a young Mexican boy who wished the sun would go away forever. The second concept, that the Earth is a member of the solar system, is introduced. An older series, but concepts are still relevant.
