How to Use the Bibliography

The bibliography is organized into four sections: "Titles and Descriptions," "Grade and Unit Index," "Media Index" and "Distributor Directory."

Titles and Descriptions

Titles are listed alphabetically. The citations provide bibliographic information, sources, annotations, and suggestions for use. The abbreviation hdc. denotes hardcover edition and pbk. denotes paperback edition. ISBN is an abbreviation for International Standard Book Number, which can usually be used as an order number. Dup. is an abbreviation for duplication which means that the video is available for duplication from Media House Productions. Unp. means that the book is not paginated. N.d. means that the publication is not dated. Ed. stands for editor or edition (depending on the context). (CAN) preceding the annotation indicates that the author or producer is Canadian; (SK) denotes Saskatchewan; and (I/M) indicates that the material has substantial Aboriginal, Inuit or Métis content.

An example of a citation for print is:
Billy's World (Print-Fiction). Weber-Pilwax, Cora. (Native Education Series). Reidmore Books (REI), 1989. 24p. IBSN 0-919091-54-7 ($6.25 pbk.).

(CAN, I/M) Billy finds what has been missing in his life when he goes on the trapline with his grandpa and feels the warmth and safety of the woods. The text is easily read and is illustrated in muted, soft-focus colour.
Suggested Use: Grade 2-Unit 1
Other Use: English Language Arts

An example of a citation for audiovisual material is:
Morning Tour: An Adventure in Canada's Parliament (Video). House of Commons, Public Information Office (MGR), 1992. 24 min. Dup. order no. V8218.

(CAN) Designed to help young people learn more about Canada's Parliament, this program takes students on a tour of the parliament buildings.
Suggested Use: Grade 5-Unit 4

Note: "Suggested Use" provides ideas for the grade(s) and unit(s) for which the material could be utilized. "Other Use" lists other curriculum areas for which a resource has been recommended. These resources have been recommended for the elementary level unless otherwise noted. Of course, teachers will have other suggestions. Saskatchewan Education, Training and Employment encourages educators to employ the resources in as many learning situations as they think appropriate.

Grade and Unit Index
