(CAN) This is a touching historical fiction novel from one of Canada's foremost historians. In this short account of the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike, two young girls attempt to hold onto their friendship in spite of their families' opposite political positions. The book is a well-written presentation of the sacrifices made by strikers and their families and the reasons behind the strike's failure.

This book illustrates the close ties of friendship based on mutual need that exists in rural communities.
