Jamaica feels left out because her older brother doesn't allow her to join his basketball game. When she is annoyed with a younger boy who tries to tag along with her to play in the sand, she realizes that others feel the same way. This simple, loving story deals well with fairness.

In this Swahili alphabet book, translated paragraphs in English accompany drawings. The book is easily read, interesting and informative.

(CAN) Five groups of 20 slides portray work, needs, leisure, religions and institutions. Two sets of notes, one with a short caption for each slide, one (teacher reference) with much more detail, are included. The material was developed for an older audience, but has good slides and is versatile.

(CAN) This beautifully told story describes an immigrant teenager of 1900 who, in a one room school, had to sit with the little ones until he learned English. Shamed, he leaves, giving precious gifts to those he learned to care about.

(CAN) This encyclopedia contains brief descriptions of Canadian locations, wildlife, people, historical events, and organizations. Although this is an excellent general reference, the teacher should be aware that Aboriginal and Métis information is often dealt with using inappropriate terminology and from a Eurocentric perspective.
