This text provides information on manual and CAD drafting, but it emphasizes basic drafting elements as the fundamentals of the discipline. The goal of the text is “to help students learn to visualize in three dimensions, to build imaginations, to think precisely and to understand the language of industry.” Virtually all areas of drafting are covered including careers, multiviews, fasteners, dimensioning, CAD, cams and map drafting. Each chapter starts with a set of objectives and vocabulary and finishes with review questions, learning activities and several problems. The text is well illustrated with colour photographs, drawings, tables and charts. An index and a glossary are included.

An industry standard CADD package, this software program is applicable to all modules except manual drafting and sketching. It incorporates high-performance 2D and 3D modelling. The academic version allows teachers and students to access MicroStation/J plus several engineering configurations: GeoGraphics, Modeller, TriForma and Schematics. In addition to the single user fee (one computer), there is a yearly cost for technical support and upgrades.

By using this resource, teachers can provide students with important information about health, safety and labour standards that will help them make a positive transition from school to work. The program is designed to work with Windows 95 or higher and Internet Explorer.
The CD will be part of the Ready for Work binder as of September 2003. Individual copies are available from Saskatchewan Labour.
