System Requirements: Macintosh computer with a 20 megabyte or larger hard disc; a videodisc player (Pioneer 2200, 4200, 6000A, 6010A, or 8000; Sony 1200, 1450, 1500, or 1550); a colour video monitor (composite type); and RS-232 cables to connect videodisc player and Macintosh. Requires System 6.05 or higher.
Water and air pollution, waste disposal, the global warming theory, citizen activism and other topics are presented as worldwide issues and as case studies that illustrate how we are confronting the issues in specific parts of the world. Race to Save the Planet is available on videodisc for teachers who want the ease of instantaneously accessing specific information on this program by way of a computer.
In the interactive part of the package, students learn about the interrelationships between environmental and economic decisions as they play the role of president of a juice factory in the Activity. The VideoEditor lets you put together sequences of video clips and slides for customized video presentations. This is considered to be a good resource on general topics related to physical and biological science. The resource provides information which could be food for thought on various issues. Factors involved in both sides of some argument such as nuclear power are discussed, leaving the students to form their own opinions. Most of the information, however, is presented in a textbook format in which the student reads information and then answers questions based on the reading. There is no room for discovery learning in these situations. Included are a table of contents and an index.

Taped in British Columbia and narrated by Bill Reid, this videotape shows young people experiencing a two week cultural camp. The young people learn about themselves and nature. Elders share information about history, art and life. The youth learn that sharing is important. The videotape is a companion to the above print title.
