This is a highly recommended world music resource designed for both generalists and specialists in music. Organized geographically, the book looks at several cultural groups from around the world. In each chapter, the editors describe general musical development and characteristics as background information for lesson plans. Lessons, mainly centered around the dominant cultural instruments and rhythms, are suitable for adaptation to several student levels. The concluding discography/filmography/

bibliography is an excellent list of related music resources. The book offers black-and-white photographs. Included are a table of contents, an extensive glossary, and an index.

It includes a table of contents, a glossary, a composer/artist index, and a general index. Although designed as a student text, the purchase of classroom sets is not recommended. This resource requires supplementary materials with Canadian, Saskatchewan, Aboriginal, and Métis content. The teacher's manual provides additional short profiles of musicians and composers, ideas for activities and related listening suggestions from the 17 CD albums. It includes a comprehensive index of the CDs, a composer index and an index of compositions. The audio and video components provide rich resources of sound that reinforce what is said about music in the text.
