Foreword
This multi-media bibliography represents a selected listing of materials recently evaluated by Saskatchewan educators and considered appropriate as support for the new Secondary level science program.
This bibliography is intended as a selection tool. However, it remains the responsibility of educators in schools to preview and choose materials in order that the needs of students in each particular school and community are met. Teachers and teacher-librarians are advised to refer to their school board's selection policy for guidance in making choices about materials. The Saskatchewan Education publication, Learning Resource Centres in Saskatchewan: A Guide for Development, provides valuable direction for development of a selection policy.
As outlined in Saskatchewan Education's Aboriginal and Métis Education Policy from Kindergarten to Grade XII, teachers and teacher-librarians are reminded to select works by and about Aboriginal and Métis peoples.
Saskatchewan Education has provided, free of charge, one copy of this bibliography for each school. Additional copies are available from the Book Bureau. Schools may photocopy this publication if they wish.
Please refer to the section "How to Use the Bibliography" for information to assist in efficient use of this document. Prices quoted are subject to change, but will serve as a guide to approximate costs. Prices do not include applicable sales tax.
Educators should keep in mind that new resources with curriculum relevance for Secondary level science are being published and produced each year. This bibliography includes resources that were submitted to Saskatchewan Education during the pilot stage of the Secondary level science curriculum development project and which were positively reviewed. Teachers are encouraged to evaluate other new resources as they become available.
The use of fiction and other genre as extensions and integrations for the new science curricula is encouraged. Titles that fit these categories may be found in respective subject area bibliographies published by Saskatchewan Education.
For additional information on meeting the resource needs for Secondary level science, please refer to the section "Considerations in Acquiring Resources."
