Mapping Our Genes: The Genome Protect and the Future of Medicine (Print-Non-Fiction). Wingerson, Lois. Dutton (MCC), 1990. 338 p. ISBN 0-515-24877-3 ($26.95 hdc.)
Lois Wingerson's book is a collection of case studies which look at people who have a variety of genetic disorders and at the scientists who study these disorders in order to identify the gene which causes the disorder. Each of the first 10 chapters is a case study on some genetic conditions. Tourette's syndrome, cystic fibrosis, bipolar disorder, Huntington's chores, Freidrich's ataxia, juvenile (type 1) diabetes, retinal blastoma, Turner's syndrome and familial polyposis are discussed in the context of the search for, and discovery of the genes which trigger these conditions.

Merrill Physlcs: Prlaciples and Problems (Print-Non-Fiction). Zitzewi~e, Paul W. and Robert F.
Neff. Glencoe (BB), 1992. 736p. BB 1018($48.95 hdc.)
This text has excellent colour graphics and photography. It has a good section on pocket labs with simple experiments to illustrate concepts. Each chapter stresses applications, the majority of which fit the STSE approach. Excellent support materials accompany the text. A Canadian edition will be available from the Book Bureau in fall, 1992. Maxwell Macmillan Canada will leave the content essentially the same, but provide Sl Units only, Canadianize spellings, replace U.S. photographs with Canadian ones and, where possible, feature Canadian physicists. The US Teacher Wrap Around Edition will remain the same. Included are a table of contents, glossary and an index.
