Under the Microscope (Print-Non-Fiction). Burgess, Jeremy, Michael Marten and Rosemary Taylor. Cambridge University (BORE), 1987. Order No. 63817-00 ($26.34 pbk.)
In this resource there are a number of excellent photos of things not normally seen. The first half of the book deals with biological aspects of the human body, animals, seed plants, micro-organisms and the cell. The last three chapters deal with chemistry and its applications in the areas of the inorganic world, industrial world and our everyday world. The explanations are quite in depth. The material
corresponds to the Dimension of Science-Related Interests and Attitudes as it provides technological literacy.

Although the reading level is high, the descriptions of the careers of women in science should motivate interested students and serve as a good background for all high school science teachers. Included are a bibliography and an index.

Uranium (Kit). (Saskatchewan Resource Series). Saskatchewan Education (BB), 1991.
Kit includes: VHS videocassette and manual (BB) BB 6091 ($29.15)
Manual only (BB) BB 6092 ($7.60)
Video only (MHP) Dup. Order No. V03562
In February 1991, one copy was sent to each school with grade 10 students enroled. Print materials can be purchased from the Book Bureau. The videotape may be acquired from Media House Productions for the cost of the tape, plus duplication charge. The video provides an interesting look at uranium as a resource and at the Saskatchewan uranium industry. The printed material provides background information and a number of suggested classroom activities. The material may be duplicated for classroom use.

Uranium (Videotape). National Film Board (NFB), 1990. 48 min. Order No. 10190-053 ($26.95)
The consequences of uranium mining in Canada are explored. The video explains that because of toxic and radioactive waste, there are profound, long-term environmental hazards associated with uranium mining. For miners who work at the sites, there is the substantially increased risk of getting cancer and, because most of the mining to date has been on land historically used by Canada's Aboriginal and Métis populations, uranium mining violated the traditional economic and spiritual lives of many Aboriginal people.

Vectors (Videotape). Classroom Video (CV), 1990. 19 min. ($69.00)
Various aspects of vectors such as what they are, the addition of vectors, two and three dimensional components of vectors and the commutative nature of vector addition are dealt with on this video. Some good examples of vectors in action are also shown.

Vision (Print-Non-Fiction). Koop, C. Everett. (The Encyclopedia of Health - The Healthy Body). Chelsea House (NEL), 1990. 103 p. ISBN 0-7910-0031-1 ($24.99 pbk.)
Koop presents the history of our knowledge of human vision, how we see and some of the defects of human vision. This material is only moderately technical and does not use mathematics to explain concepts. It is very clearly written and strongly shows the science and society interrelationship. The book also supports the Nature of Science, Key Science Concepts and the Processes of Science. If this resource were to be purchased solely for support of the physics section on optics, it may be too expensive for the amount of physics explained.

The Visual Dictionary of Plants (Print-Non-Fiction). (Eyewitness Visual Dictionaries Series). Stoddart (STO), 1992. 64 p. ISBN 0-7737-2563-6 ($17.95 hdc.)
Using colourful micrography, various plants, their structures and plant processes are briefly and picturesquely described. This is an attractive resource which would motivate student browsing in this subject area.
