(I/M) This video tells how the Huaorani people of the Amazon are attempting to preserve their traditional way of life and avoid exploitation by multinational oil companies. The video juxtaposes the opposing viewpoints of the Huaorani, the oil companies wishing to drill on Huaorani land, and the Christian missionaries, who are accused of paving the way for exploitation. Included are interviews with Huaorani people and footage demonstrating the environmental destruction and the financial dependence in neighbouring areas where oil companies have removed people from their traditional sources of food and shelter. This is an interesting look at resistance to cultural change, adaptation to change, and the imposition of cultural change.
