(CAN) In this kit, each of the ten snapshots of Canadian social history is a self-contained unit, including a teaching guide and a variety of student resources. The video contains the first 40 Heritage Minutes vignettes, as well as three other brief segments. The audiocassette contains the selection "Only Yesterday" by Chief Dan George. Resources in various snapshots include information broadsheets, newspapers, posters, primary documents, sketches, maps, biographies for role playing and mock passports. These materials are a combination of primary source documents and fictional but authentic items. The video and audio components of this kit are particularly valuable for the study of culture among First Nations in Grade 9. The storage box measures 60 cm by 35 cm by 27 cm.

Using classroom narratives and student examples to support the philosophy, the authors suggest ways to make assessment manageable. They discuss portfolios and folders for collecting data, look at continuous assessment and provide sample assessment tools. This is an interesting, clearly written book. It contains a detailed table of contents, an index, and chapter reference lists.

This intensive case study explores the characteristics of an extended family in an agricultural society. The family members share in the labour necessary to plant and harvest the food crop, and the family life is close, with each family member having clearly defined roles and functions.
