Art Connections is a comprehensive easy-to-manage program that invites students to explore both the visual and performing arts. Lessons include art history and culture, aesthetic perception, art production and art criticism. They feature exemplary historical and contemporary art, student art work, hands-on activities and artist profiles. The lessons incorporate visual art into the study of music, dance and drama and indicate career connections to help students discover how art impacts careers. Each grade features a student edition, a teacher edition and several lesson enrichment resources.
The student editions are clearly written and contain large, colourful images that encourage students to experience art on a personal basis and to create, compare and contrast works of art.
Big book versions of the student books for Grades 1 and 2 provide a large-group alternative to individual student books.
The overhead transparency study prints for Grades 1-5 contain 36 transparencies of visual art, one for each lesson in the guide, and are designed to enhance large group art experiences and provide opportunities for discussion and comparison.
The teacher editions feature self-contained lessons that allow for the presentation of topics in any order to suit individual teaching styles. A multiple intelligences section identifies the primary ways of learning in each lesson and an art background section provides the pronunciation of artist. s names plus other necessary details to make teaching more enriching and meaningful. Cross-curricular connections are evident throughout.
