Coastal Processes and Landforms
(Video). Classroom Video (MGR), 1994. 23 min. Dup. order no. V3066. Teacher's Guide - Order no. G3066 ($1.00 loose-leaf).Using examples from the United Kingdom and Australia, this program illustrates the processes that shape our coastlines. It shows how the interdependent processes of erosion, transportation and deposition transform coastal landscapes. Examples from beaches, headlands, rivers and their valleys and glaciated areas are used to show how, over time, coasts can be built up or eroded. The program illustrates how geology and wave action combine to create beautiful formations such as sea stacks, pinnacles, arches and blow holes. Storms generating powerful waves can also cause great damage to coastal towns. This program examines the effects of defending coasts from storms using expensive treatments such as groynes and sea walls. It also addresses the Greenhouse Effect.
