Note: The list of resources in this section provides an update to Mathematics A30, B30, C30: A Bibliography for the Secondary Level (1997).

Dive in to Math (Video). CTV Television Network Ltd. (MAG), 1994. 30 min. Order no. 859-31-101 ($49.00).

(CAN) The Dive in to Math resource package for teachers and students presents as interesting opportunity to integrate physical education and mathematics. Firstly, the students prepare for the activity. Background information on diving is given to the students This includes: body positions, types of dives, judging criteria, scoring, and degrees of difficulty charts. Secondly, the teacher assigns and explains different tasks to the students. Then they view a series of dives from the men's diving competition from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Students then judge the dives and calculate the results. This resource is excellent for cooperative learning strategies, as well as for real-life situations. Nonetheless, to effectively use Dive in to Math, the resource package is necessary. Please note that the price for this was incorrectly listed as $89.00 in the Mathematics A30, B30, C30: A Bibliography for the Secondary Level.

Problem-solving strategies such as charts and diagrams are explained and used to illustrate solutions to the problems. The problems, presented in this book, progress in difficulty from very easy to quite challenging. The resource also includes a section on selected logic games. Fun With Logic could be used to introduce mathematical proof, or as a motivational set for problem-solving. It is effective for developing critical and creative thinking skills. Fun With Logic is an easy resource for the teacher to use because, not only does it include an answer key, it also includes suggestions for solving problems and a bibliography of additional readings.
