Activity One
This purpose of this concept application activity is to expand students knowledge of the concept of human rights and to think about what their personal stand on human rights will be.
Activity Two
This activity is intended to help students understand that a social contract, which defines and enforces systems of human rights and responsibilities, is created by a society and that the conditions of the contract change as the society evolves.
Activity Three
This concept application activity allows students to investigate how societies differ in the application of human rights to the members of their respective societies. The activity also allows students to further define what they consider to be basic
and essential human rights.
Activity Four
This concept development activity will give students an appreciation of the tension that exists between national sovereignty and "perceived" foreign intervention/intrusion in the internal affairs of a nation. The simulation activity also al
lows students to investigate contemporary "human rights" issues and the potential role of the United Nations in protecting human rights.
Activity Five
This simulation activity will involve students in a peace conference to seek a resolution to the Arab-Israeli conflict. The activity will allow students to gain an awareness of the complexity of the issues that dominate that region and to give them c
ooperative/group activities.
