Learning Cycle

The units in these courses have been organized according to the learning cycle diagrammed below. Students are introduced to concepts and skills/abilities using familiar material. These activities are labelled concept development activities. This is done to make it easier for students to concentrate on learning either the concept or the skill. Once this is done, students are ready to extend their understanding of concepts and skills by applying them to what may be unfamiliar information in order to understand better the concepts and the new situation. These are labelled concept application lessons. Then there is an activity or two at the end of the unit which give students an opportunity to evaluate the usefulness and applicability of what they have learned. These activities are labelled concept evaluation activities.
