  • challenge themselves to take risks and develop an awareness of problem-solving as basic and essential to the creative process

  • increase their understanding of the contributions of various artists, past and present, to the field of visual art

  • increase their understanding of the contributions of Saskatchewan and Canadian artists, including Aboriginal artists, to the field of visual art

  • The teacher should bring old bed sheets or tablecloths which students could drape over their bodies. Ask the students to draw the covered shapes in various positions such as sitting, standing, etc.

    Look for examples of simplified forms such as photographs of west coast Totem poles; J. Nugent's sculptures from Saskatchewan Art Works (slide #68); H. Moore's, B. Hepworth's and C. Brancusi's sculptures from art history resources. Discuss the similarities between the students' and the artists' work.
