Components:
cultural/historical,
creative/productive

  • continue to hone skills of observation and image-making in order to become more aware of the detailed information in their environment

  • apply their understanding of the elements of art and the principles of design when discussing, analysing, developing and reflecting on visual art works

  • identify and explore the various functions of visual art

  • transform their reflections into strategies for action (CEL: IL)

  • develop co-ordination and skills for using art tools, technology, materials and techniques

  • Observe people in the community and analyse their body language and their presentation of their self-concept.

Discuss the principle of design "emphasis". Emphasis controls the order of the way we look at things. Look at artists' works from Saskatchewan Art Works, such as J. Fafard slide #57 Joe Fafard - Saskatchewan Artist {769:245} , R. McLellan slide #64, E. Lindner slide #63, and discuss how the artists have used emphasis.

Discuss emphasis as it relates to personal representation. Students should describe their own style and the image they wish to convey to other people. Create a personal monument by carving a block of well-wedged clay, plaster, styrofoam, etc .
