The teacher could
have decided to motivate the
development of these
prepared improvisations by having the students watch an actual news
broadcast in class time. This would have provided them an
opportunity to observe and discuss the structure of such
programming and the roles played by each of those who appeared
before the camera, and would have made the objectives of the task
clearer. Some of the students viewed such broadcasts on their own
in out-of-class time and this was evident in the work of the groups
in which those students worked.
