Arts Education - Drama
Shifts in and out of role are usually very clear simply because the
stance and attitude of the teacher alters significantly depending
upon whether he is in or out of role. If the class is
inexperienced working within dramatic situations, however, the
teacher may choose to have a pre-arranged cue to indicate when he
is in and out of role. He may, for example, stand when out of role
and sit when in role, or wear a hat or a pair of glasses, or hold
an object in his hand to indicate being in role. As a group gains
experience working within dramas, such things often prove more
cumbersome than helpful.
