Teachers should remember that it is a valuable process to assess students' mathematics abilities and understandings when learning in other areas of study and when engaged in play.
The assessment techniques listed within the curriculum are written in abbreviated form. Letter codes indicate which techniques are suggested for each learning objective as appropriate methods of collecting a range of student information. For instance, Observation Checklists are indicated by OC; Contracts are coded as C. Any items which are in the form of tests are designated by a T after the letter code, as in Multiple Choice Test items being MC-T. A full reference of the techniques and the codes are listed in the previous section under the heading "Student Evaluation".
All assessment techniques correspond with those found in the document Student Evaluation: A Teacher Handbook (Saskatchewan Education, 1991). Should teachers wish more detailed descriptions of the purpose of the various techniques as well as how to construct and use them, such information is found in the handbook in a complete and easily referenced form. Examples of specific assessment techniques and blank templates which may be helpful to teachers are included in this section. Note: The assessment techniques and templates require Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing and printing.
