Animal Care from Protozoa to Small Animals. Orlans, Barbara. This book discusses the humane and ethical care and treatment of animals kept in the classroom. It promotes human sensitivity to the needs and comfort of animals.

Art of the Nehiyawak: Exploring the Art of the Woods Cree. Hodgins, Ken. This resource gives insight into the cultures and traditions of the people who inhabit the Boreal forests from Ontario to Alberta - the Woods Cree people.

Discover: Mysteries of the Past and Present. Grier, Katherine. Written with the assistance of the staff at the Royal Ontario Museum, activities such as fossil-hunting, uncovering leaf skeletons and assembling the bones of a disarticulated animal skeleton give students an insight into both science concepts and the work that goes on behind the scenes in a museum.

Explorations in Science. Wortzman, Ricki et a]. This series of resources has lots of activities and information for students and teachers. Most of the topics outlined in the elementary curriculum are developed in this innovative program. The program offers excellent support for the' development of scientific literacy.

Good Planets are Hard to Find: Ecology Action Workbook. Dehr, Roma and Ronald Bazar. Topics such as acid precipitation, the effect of CFCs on the atmosphere, composting and bioaccumulation of pesticides in food chains are clearly illustrated and described in this book.

Innovations in Science. Peturson, Rod et al. This series presents a fully integrated science/language arts program that fits the philosophy of the elementary science curriculum. It is excellent in its development of the Common Essential Learnings.

Issues for Today: Canadian Environmental Concerns. Marean, John. Four major environmental issues,, acid rain, herbicide use, genetic engineering, and global warming are discussed in this book. It is a good source of information for teachers who wish to discuss these topics with their classes or for advanced grade five students doing independent research.

Journeys in Science. This series is one of the two series originally correlated to the elementary science curriculum. Its open-ended activities and excellent teacher support material support the initiatives of core curriculum.

Keepers of the Earth. Caduto, Michael and Joseph Bruchac. A key resource for both the science and English language arts curricula, understandings about ecology, conservation and human relations from the North American Indian and Inuit cultures are transmitted through legends, activities and discussion.

Potholes and Ponds: A Pond Study Guide for Elementary Children. Murawsky, Vladimir. If you want to provide organized and valuable field trips to ponds or slough in your area, this book is a must! It was written in Saskatchewan for Saskatchewan conditions.

SEEDS - Society, Environment,Energy Development Studies. This is excellent material for supporting development of all aspects of the Dimensions of Scientific Literacy.

Silver Burdett and Ginn Science. This is one of the series originally correlated to the elementary science curriculum. It provides good support for the curriculum and excellent support for teachers without a background or interest in science.

Wildflowers Across the Prairies. Vance, F.R. et al. This classic guide to prairie wildflowers is filled with detailed illustrations, photographs and descriptions of plants that students will encounter every day.

Windows on Science. Westley, Joan. Consisting of six books packed full of activities appropriate for K-3 students, this series can be instrumental in helping any teacher implement an activity-based science program in any classroom.
