  • A Vanished World: The Dinosaurs of Western Canada is an excellent resource book for this subject. It is available through the provincial network of libraries.

    Some science computer software enables the user to answer a series of questions about a mineral, including such things as hardness. The questions help to identify the mineral. Investigate the possibility of including Computer Assisted Learning software such as this.

    There is a minimal charge for the kit. It is designed for the Middle Level, although it can provide some useful ideas for Elementary Level teachers. The booklet entitled "Mapping Weather" is particularly useful in grade 4. It consists of a number of maps and exercises related to those maps.

    The Guide to Farm Practice in Saskatchewan, available free of charge from extension agrologists, is an excellent resource. The first section, "The Agricultural Climate of Saskatchewan", identifies the mean annual growing degree-days, mean monthly precipitation, the frost-free season, and other useful information. At the end of the section is a sub-section titled "Weather Processes and Forecasting" and a list of references and additional readings, which are of particular interest.
