This package of formative assessment instruments designed for the advanced level (grades 10-12) is a valuable resource for teachers wishing to improve student language learning by moving toward more supportive and rigorous assessment.

The package includes: principles for designing formative assessment instruments; numerous samplers of tasks for assessing speaking, listening, writing and reading within a communicative/experiential approach. The tasks are in the context of specific fields of experience but they can easily be adapted to others. There are a variety of practical assessment instruments to duplicate for classroom use.
