1. Brainstorm: What is meant by a "fast food" restaurant? Why do we have them?
   
2. Have students share their experience in fast food restaurants.
   
3. Make a list of fast food restaurants they know of.
   
4. Determine categories - pizza, chicken, hamburger etc. Group the restaurants they know into these categories.
   
5. Poll the students and chart the most popular restaurants.
   
6. In groups, prepare and illustrated booklet of the most popular fast food restaurants.
   
7. Present booklets to the class or to another class.

    Planning a menu, decorations etc. for a café

    Experiential Goal:

    Set up a French Café for parents (at Christmas)

    Suggested Steps:

    1. Discussion:
     
  • types of restaurants/food served
     
  • study menus from various restaurants
     
  • survey class on favorite dishes
     
  • plan menu
     
  • design a menu
    2. Discuss different people in a restaurant and their roles.
     
  • assign roles / what they say...greetings etc.
    3. Discuss invitations. What information is ussually included?
     
  • design an invitation
    4. Put together a grocery list.
    5. Buy and make or have parents prepare food.
    6. Make crafts (placemats, murals, candle holders). Plan entertainment.
    7. Have the café with guests at a noon hour perhaps having several parents or willing teachers to give a hand in the kitchen.
