Experiential Goal: Students will prepare a varied restaurant menu and then perform a restaurant skit.

Motivation

7.2 From the students' experiences or knowledge, add to the list of dishes from various cultures. Survey the students to determine which dish is most popular in the class. Discuss where the dishes may have originated and how they may have changed in being taken over by the general population. J'aime beaucoup la pizza.

Révision

Working in pairs, students list the foods that they would like to see in a meal. They must include at least one food from each of the different food groups. Compare the different meals of the groups. (Evaluation) Je veux...

7.3 Annex 7 In partners, students interview each other to determine if they eat these foods often, from time to time or never. Students may wish to change the names of the foods.

7.4 Annex 8 Students try to match the food with a description. There may be more than one food that fits the description. Have the students try to make up their own descriptions of foods from other cultures.

7.5 Look in the "Yellow Pages" of the telephone directory and determine which restaurants serve dishes from other cultures and what they serve.

List all of the different ingredients that can be found on pizza. Which toppings are most popular? Which toppings are least popular? Which are most unusual?

8.1 Annex 9 The students are to choose the toppings and condiments that they prefer on their pizzas and hamburgers. They share this information with a partner and then with the rest of the class. Compile the information and have the students take note of the most popular toppings and condiments.

8.2 Annex 10 Students are given a list of foods to be compared and they are to choose the food that they prefer.

Annex 11 Students prepare to survey family members regarding favourite meals. Predict which meals will be favourites.

Motivation

Choose different foods and try to describe them using different adjectives and descriptive phrases. If students are able to do this activity on their own, have them describe a food and then share the description with the rest of the class. The class tries to guess the name of the food. Voilà une pomme. Elle est rouge, verte, ou jaune. Elle est ronde. C'est un fruit. Elle est bonne pour les dents.   

Révision

Review the different possibilities for preparing the menu presentation. Ma mère aime les pommes.
Mon père aime les croissants.
Ma soeur aime la pizza mais elle n'aime pas les hot dogs.

Contenu d'apprentissage

8.3 Annex 11 From a number of different meal menus, discuss the survey of family members regarding their favourite and least favourite foods. Share results with the class.

8.4 Annex 12 Working in pairs, have the students refer to Annex 11 and answer the questions about the different meals.
