Course Information

Communication Production Technology 10, 20, 30 develops the skills and abilities required in audio, video, and multimedia production technology. Throughout the course, students are introduced to vocabulary and concepts specifically related to broadcast technology. One foundational objective of the course is the development and use of industry-specific language.

Communication Production Technology is closely linked with industry. For example, students should be exposed to site visits, work study, and job shadowing opportunities whenever possible.

As well, in an effort to provide students with employability skills in the broadcast industry, student assessment and evaluation should connect to techniques established by best practice by the industry.

Portfolios are used to present student work.

Aim

The Communication Production Technology Curriculum Guide is designed to provide opportunities for students to acquire and develop knowledge, skills and abilities in audio, video and multimedia production technologies used in broadcast productions.

Goals

Awareness: To become aware of required knowledge, skills and abilities used in production technology.

Business Environment: To respond to the codes of best practice established by the broadcast and screen industry sector.

Employment Skills: To develop team-building skills by working in production teams, technical skills by developing individual expertise, and communication skills for the workplace.

Personal Management Skills: To promote self-esteem, confidence and a positive attitude to production technology and present the results of students’ efforts through working, showcase and professional portfolios.

Communications: To develop effective social and communication skills in the broadcast and screen industry sectors.

Business and Entrepreneurial Attitudes: To experience a practical approach to developing and using one’s skills and abilities in a variety of broadcast ventures.
