SchoolPLUS: A Vision for Children and Youth (2001), the final report on the Role of the School Task Force identified the need for greater support for career education efforts throughout the province and for a greater diversity of high school programs in the province. The Department response to the recommendations of the Task Force indicates support in principle for all recommendations. Saskatchewan Learning believes that all children will benefit from exposure to the Practical and Applied Arts. The Practical and Applied Arts curricula also provide tremendous opportunity for schools to involve communities in supporting learners as they acquire skills in both school-based and work-based learning environments. The Practical and Applied Arts curricula include over 30 curricula, close to 90 courses, and more than 900 modules in a wide range of areas. The PAA supports career development through: career exploration modules that are core components of each curriculum guide; through the opportunity for work-based learning in all courses; and, by providing a widely varied array of curricula. In particular, Life Transitions 20, 30 and Career and Work Exploration 10, 20, A30, B30 specifically focus on career education and career development content. PAA Survey courses allow schools to offer an even greater diversity of experiences in order to meet the student needs and those of the community. These courses encourage school and community partnerships designed to share resources and to work together to provide an enhanced learning program and the services necessary to support student learning.
