Survey
Curriculum Guidelines - Page 1
General:
- As in any
other core curriculum, the Foundational
Objectives of each module/unit must be achieved.
-To enable each
learner to succeed to the best of her/his ability, the application
of the Adaptive Dimension empowers teachers to adapt the Learning
Objectives, the instructional and assessment methods and the learning
environment.
- Prerequisite
requirements must be fufilled.
- Only PAA
modules can be used for PAA Survey
Courses.
- Safety and
career development are compulsory topics
in PAA courses. When designing a Survey Course, learning objectives
dealing with safety and career development should be integrated
throughout the course as necessary and appropriate.
- Job shadows,
career research interviews, field trips, guest speakers, etc. could
be used to make connections to the workplace in order to support
work-based learning.
- Recordkeeping
is an essential part of offering Survey Courses at all levels. It
is necessary to avoid repetition of modules, to assist with the
transfer of information when a student changes schools, and to support
post-secondary articulation, Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) , and
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR).
Recordkeeping
templates are included in the PAA curriculum guides and also
on this site to be downloaded for school use. A database is being
developed to facilitate electronic recordkeeping of modules. Upon
successful completion of the course, it is suggested that the recordkeeping
form become part of the permanent student record. See Appendix B
in the PAA Handbook for a generic recordkeeping template useful
for Survey Courses.
Middle
Level Guidelines
Secondary
Level Guidelines
The Survey
Guidelines, which contain the recommended modules for Middle
and Secondary Levels, are part of the PAA Handbook.
Some modules
are not recommended for use as modules in Survey Courses because
of Trade Advisory Board suggestions, equipment considerations and
special subject council recommendations.
