Maintenance
Saskatchewan Education, Training and Employment plans to maintain the
Physical Education 6-9 curriculum through periodic sharing of information about
current key resources.
In addition, schools and school divisions are encouraged to consider the
following questions which focus on maintenance needs:
Curriculum
- To what extent are teachers familiar with the curriculum guide, its
philosophy, goals, activities and methods? (This is what is meant by the
intended curriculum.)
- To what extent do the experiences that teachers provide (the taught
curriculum) match the intended curriculum?
Instruction
- Are teachers using a variety of instructional approaches?
- Are teachers incorporating opportunities for exploration, and adapting
materials, methods and settings to meet individual student needs?
Assessment and Evaluation
- Are teachers using a variety of assessment techniques to ensure that the
foundational and learning objectives are achieved?
- Are all students progressing as a result of the experiences teachers
provide?
- Does the reporting procedure to parents and students reflect the aim and
goals of the program?
Resources
- Are sufficient resources available to teach this program as intended?
- Are equipment and facilities adequate to achieve the program objectives?
- What human and community resources are used to support the program?
- Are resources used effectively and efficiently?
- Are there creative ways to obtain resources to support this
program?
Staff Development
- What provisions are made for staff development? For example, has an
in-school or school division network been established to support delivery of
this program through idea exchanges and peer coaching?
Curriculum Evaluation
Physical Education 6-9 will be evaluated at regular intervals by the
Evaluation Branch of Saskatchewan Education, Training and Employment.
