Chemistry: A First Course (Print-Non-Fiction). Rayner-Canham, G., et al. Addison-Wesley (ADD), 1988. 594 p. ISBN 0-201-17880-X ($34.20 hdc. student edition) ISBN 0-201-177883 ($66.71 teacher edition, loose-leaf in binder)
A good support for the DSLs is provided by this text. There are errors in the text such as with some answers to questions and in some data. Some typos exist. The teacher resource binder is considered an excellent resource no matter which student resources are being used. The women in science section may be especially useful. Included are a table of contents, glossary and an index.

Chemistry: A Second Course (Print-Non-Fiction). Rayner-Canham, G., et al. Addison-Wesley (ADD), 1989. 759 p. ISBN 0-201-17885-0 ($36.60 hdc. student edition) ISBN 0-201-177887 ($100.65 teacher edition, loose-leaf in binder)
Many Canadian chemists are featured in this resource. It provides a good to excellent support for the DSLs. Additional resources may be needed to support personal and social values and skills. The student edition is considered an excellent resource; however, there are some errors in the text, especially with the units used in Appendix III. The teacher's resource binder is considered an excellent resource, no matter which student resources are being used. Included are a table of contents, glossary and index.

Prentice Hall Chemistry: The Study of Matter. 3rd. ed. (Print-Non-Fiction). Dorin, Henry, Peter E. Demmin and Dorothy L. Gabel. Prentice Hall (PRN), 1989. 816 p. ISBN 0-13-129875-5 ($57.81 hdc.) ISBN 0-13-129891-7 ($251.94 loose-leaf binder)
This is an easy to read book with student appeal. The text is attractively complemented by pictures and diagrams. This material is considered strong in terms of supporting critical and creative thinking, content and concept mastery, cumulative and summative evaluation, course objectives and in its variety of techniques. Sections such as "Explorations" and "Can You Explain This" would provide strong support for the STSE dimension. The material is American in content. Included are a table of contents, glossary and an index.
