Accompanying Sheet to:       Trying Not to Pig-Out

         Game Rules for Pig-Out 1

How do you win?
The first player to have a game score of 100 or more points wins the game.

Who plays and who has the first turn?
Two or more players play the game. Each rolls a pair of dice. The player with the highest total goes first. The player to the left goes next.

How do you take your turn?
Roll the dice.

  • If neither die is a 6, total the dice. We call this total, spots. You can either end your turn and let the next person have a turn or you can roll the dice again. Add these spots to the other spots you got on this turn.

  • If a 6 is rolled on one or both dice, you pigged-out (lost all the spots you earned on that turn). Your turn is over.

  • When your turn is over, your spots are changed to points, and added to the points you had from your other turns. Remember, if you pig-out, you have no spots left, and no points are gained for this turn.

  • You can roll the dice as many times as you want during one turn, as long as you don't pig-out.

What happens when you pig-out?
You pig-out when you roll the dice and get a 6 on one or both dice. When you pig-out you lose all your spots and your turn is over. Zero points are added to your game score. When you pig-out you never lose points from your game score that you earned on earlier turns.

How should you keep track of your spots and points?
Try to add the numbers in your head (or, if you have to, use paper and pencil or a calculator). Say your spots out loud as you take your turn. Other players should also keep track of the spots so that no mistake is made. The scorekeeper should keep track of the total points of the players after each turn.

Remember you can roll the dice as many times as you want for each turn (unless you pig-out). The following shows an example of how to take the turns and keep the score. Other players would have turns between Pat's turns.

Pat's first turn:

  • Rolls a 3 & 4. Totals 7 spots.

  • Rolls a 1 & 5. Totals 6 spots for this roll and 13 spots so far for this turn (7+6).
  • Rolls a 2 & 2. The 4 spots for this roll are added to the 13 so far to give 17 spots.
  • Pat decides to stop and the 17 spots become 17 points added to the game score.

Pat's game score is now 17 points.

Pat's second turn:

  • Rolls a 1 & 2. Totals 3 spots.

  • Rolls a 5 & 5. Totals 13 spots (3+10).
  • Pat decides to stop and the 13 spots become 13 points added to the game score.

Pat's game score is now 30 points (17+13).

Pat's third turn:

  • Rolls a 5 & 2. Totals 7 spots.

  • Rolls a 3 & 5. Totals 15 spots (7+8).
  • Rolls a 5 & 6. Pat pigs-out (rolled a 6). All spots for this turn are lost. Pat gets zero points for this turn but does not lose any points from the game score.

Pat's game score remains at 30 points (30+0).
