The teacher designs lessons so that students have opportunities to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the various units, strands, and activity areas within Wellness 10. For example, in Week 2, Teacher B has chosen the strand Physical Activity and Fitness and the activity area of Games. During this lesson, students will not only participate in game activities, they will also learn something about Physical Activity and Fitness that will enable them to progress toward attainment of the objectives for the Physical Activity and Fitness strand of Wellness 10. For instance, after having participated in two or three different game activities, the teacher could have students compare (analyze) the activities in terms of their contributions to the development of each component of physical fitness. As indicated on the Teacher B semester plan during Week 2, the teacher provides students with an opportunity to learn about the relationship between the Physical Activity and Fitness strand, and the Leisure strand and how they influence each other.
Lessons are designed to enable students to progress toward attainment of the objectives for the unit or strand of Wellness 10. Except for lessons that are held in a classroom, during which students are not physically active, students will spend some time during each lesson:
An example of this can be demonstrated by referring to the sample semester plans. During Week 1, Teacher B has planned for students to be in the gymnasium for two lessons. During a portion of these two lessons, students will actively participate in a variety of physical fitness learning experiences. Teacher B has designed these two lessons in order to provide opportunities for her students to increase their knowledge and understanding of physical fitness. The students are still developing their Physical Activity and Fitness action plans and these learning experiences will enable them to produce more realistic, effective, and achievable action plans.
