In this unit, I plan to help students optimize their learning and achieve Wellness 10 objectives by:
___ using Wellness 10: A Bibliography (2003) and subsequent Learning Resource Material Updates, which are published and sent to schools on a regular basis, as starting points to find student and teacher resources
___ collaborating with others, including teacher-librarians, to plan opportunities for students to use a variety of resources
___ developing a unit that uses a variety of resources to address the range of student needs and Wellness 10 objectives
___ developing a classroom environment that encourages and fosters the use of a range of oral, print, and other media texts
___ planning a unit of study that includes a range of resources – print, oral, and other media texts
___ helping students use libraries as an extension of the classroom
___ helping students increase their abilities, interests, and confidence in listening to, reading, and viewing a range of oral, print, and other media texts
___ supporting students in accessing resources for both their personal needs and satisfaction, and for their learning needs and tasks
___ supporting students in accessing community resources
___ helping students focus their information needs or questions to be answered
___ helping students determine the range of possible resources (such as videos, the Internet, encyclopedia, people) that might be useful
___ helping students develop information retrieval skills and strategies, including those for information communication technology
___ helping students develop skills and strategies to evaluate
resources critically
___ helping students synthesize and organize information from multiple sources
___ helping students prepare and present what they have learned
___ helping students develop an inquiring mind and a repertoire of inquiry strategies
___ helping students explore and develop a range of study skills
including summarizing key ideas, making notes, keeping observational records,
