Program Maintenance
Maintenance is a process that occurs over time. Schools are encouraged to review the effectiveness of their instruction continually and to make adjustments accordingly.
Program maintenance enhances and sustains the curriculum in the schools. It is essential to support, monitor, and revitalize courses of study and related materials and to provide continuous support to teachers in the change process. This continuous growth and development ensures that curricula and instruction are accommodating the diverse and changing needs of students and society.
Teachers grow professionally when they reflect on their own teaching and when they keep informed of current instructional strategies and evaluation methods to be used in their programs. Teachers are encouraged to review new materials and to select additional resources that are appropriate for use with their students.
Schools and school divisions are responsible for developing their own plans to support staff needs in refining methods of instruction and evaluation.
Saskatchewan Education supports maintenance of the English Language Arts curriculum through data collection and analysis and updates of existing courses of study and instructional materials lists. Maintenance information is provided in Update Bulletins of the Curriculum and Instruction Branch and on the World Wide Web (http://www.sasked.gov.sk.ca).
